The Atlanta Falcons have acquired receiver Van Jefferson from the Los Angeles Rams, a move that could help rejuvenate the sagging fortunes of the 27-year-old NFL player.

The NFL trade also includes a swap of 2025 draft picks. The Falcons sent their sixth-round pick to the Rams, who gave up their seventh-round selection, according to sources per Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

Jefferson is in his fourth NFL season but has accounted for only eight catches for 108 yards without any touchdown.

Since joining the Rams in 2020, he has played in 49 games and started in 30 of them, ESPN reported. His best year was 2021, his sophomore year, when the LA Rams won Super Bowl LVI. The former Florida Gator started in every game that season, ESPN reported.

Van Jefferson gets a new lease on life

However, Jefferson saw his stock decline with the Rams this season. With Puka Nacua and Tutu Atwell playing well, the Tennessee native struggled for playing time, CBS Sports reported.

In his last game in a Rams uniform, Van Jefferson only had two offensive snaps in the team's Week 5 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, 23-14.

Aside from the emergence of Nacua and Atwell, there is also Cooper Kupp. Hence, Jefferson may get a better opportunity to play more with the Falcons.

He joins a Falcons' receiving core that includes Drake London, Mack Hollins, and Scotty Miller. He also becomes another offensive option for QB Desmond Ridder, who is having a good season of his career so far.
