The Arizona Diamondbacks are set to keep general manager and executive vice president Mike Hazen for the foreseeable future.

This new contract ensures that the dynamic executive will remain the team's general manager until the end of the 2028 season, with the possibility of extending his tenure through 2029 via a club option.

Hazen's previous contract was set to run through 2024, with a club option for 2025.

"I am very happy to stay here. My family loves it here. This is kind of our team and the team we are trying to build.. We're committed to trying to bring back a World Series championship here, and that's not done yet," the 47-year-old executive said.

Hazen has played a pivotal role in the D-backs' rebuilding efforts, resulting in the team's first postseason appearance this year since 2017.

Arizona has reached the playoffs for the second time under Hazen after a regular season wherein they posted a record of 84-78, securing one of the National League Wild Card spots.

Boston Red Sox was interested in Hazen

The Red Sox listed Hazen as one of the leading candidates to replace Chaim Bloom as the team's chief baseball officer.

Hazen spent more than a decade in the Red Sox organization in various roles, starting as a director of player development in 2006.

Over the years, he assumed various roles within the team, including vice president, senior vice president, and general manager, in his departure in 2016.
