Simone Biles and the US Women's Team made history after clinching the sixth consecutive team gold medal at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships on Wednesday, October 4, in Antwerp, Belgium.

It was the 20th world championship gold medal for the 26-year-old after a two-year absence, CNN reported. She played a key part in the triumph of the US Women's team, comprised of Skye Blakey, Shilese Jones, Joscelyn Roberson, and Leanne Wong.

"It wasn't Team USA's best day," Biles said via ESPN. "It's crazy, we still pulled it out. So I'm really, really proud of the team."

The US Women's Team finished with a combined total of 167.729 points to edge out second-place Brazil and France.

It was equally special for Simone Biles since it was her 33rd major championship medal, making her the most decorated gymnast ever. In detail, she now has 26 world championship medals, 20 of which are gold, to go with her seven Olympic medals, including the 2016 Olympic title.

"We had some mistakes here and there, but just keep going, keep relying on our training," Biles said. "But I think this team that we have brought this year has the most great courage and fight. ... We had so many emotions going throughout the day."

For the US team, the feat also allowed them to break out of a tie with the China men's team as far as the longest streak of consecutive team titles.

US' bumpy road to glory

However, the road to victory was not easy for the United States, especially after Roberson was forced out of the event after seemingly hurting her ankle. She was helped off the mat and replaced by Wong.

"You had Jos go down, you had somebody step up to the plate. We had so many different emotions going throughout the day and it wasn't USA's best day. It's crazy, we still pulled it out, so I'm really, really proud of the team," Biles said via The Guardian.
