Manny Machado of the San Diego Padres underwent surgery to repair the extensor tendon in his right elbow on Tuesday, October 3. But the more pressing question is whether Manny Machado is ready by spring training at the earliest.
The medical procedure was performed by Dodgers' team physician Dr. Neal ElAttrache, according to Bernie Wilson of the Associated Press. As far as Manny Machado's timeline for recovery, the estimated time is 4 to 6 months.
Machado initially tried to avoid going under the knife. Unfortunately, this proved costly and one of the factors why the Padres were eliminated on September 29, ESPN reported.
Machado willed way to help the Padres
"We were trying to avoid it as much as we can," Machado said about the surgery at the time. "But unfortunately, [the injury] has just put us in that situation, and you know what, it's probably going to make me better, going to make us all better. Just get it done, get ready for next year, come back and be healthy."
Regardless, Machado has a productive season despite not being at 100%. The 31-year-old finished with five home runs in 86 plates in that month alone.
As far as seeing the six-time All-Star back in action, the earliest time would be by spring training. But if the Padres are to stretch it to the entire route, Manny Machado could be back in time for opening day, CBS Sports reported.
Machado mega deal
Ironically, it will also be the first season of his new deal with the Padres. Rather than test the free agent market, the 2020 Silver Slugger Award winner and the Padres agreed to an 11-year $350 million contract, something that will hopefully boost their dream of winning their first World Series title, the Associated Press reported.
