The Los Angeles Angels have announced they will not bring back manager Phil Nevin for the 2024 MLB season.
The club said they would not pick up Nevin's 2024 contract option, and his stint with the team concluded with a combined record of 119 wins and 149 losses.
Nevin failed to steer the team to a playoff appearance despite having two of the best players in baseball, two-way phenom Shohei Ohtani and center fielder Mike Trout.
The 52-year-old assumed the role of interim manager when Joe Maddon was dismissed in June 2022 amid a 12-game losing streak.
For the 2023 season, Nevin was officially given the full-time role, and the Angels had high expectations of making the playoffs for the first time since 2014 under their manager's leadership.
However, the team finished the campaign with a record of 73-89, good for fourth place in the American League West and finishing 17 games behind the division-winning Houston Astros.
This will mark their fourth managerial hire since 2019. Brad Ausmus held the managerial role for one season in 2019 before Joe Maddon was hired in 2020. With their impending new hire, the Angels will have five different managers in the past seven seasons.
Before this transition period, the team enjoyed stability, with Mike Scioscia serving as manager from 2000 to 2018.

Perry Minasian's future
On the other hand, Angels general manager Perry Minasian's job appears to be safe despite their lack of recent success.
The 43-year-old took over the team in the 2021 season, signing a four-year contract.
