One of the highest profile names to be mentioned in trade rumors throughout this offseason is Tampa Bay Rays pitcher David Price, and with the Winter Meetings occurring this week, some more teams will emerge in the speculation of teams that could possibly land the former Cy Young Award winner. Currently the Los Angeles Dodgers have become the latest team to bare that distinction.
The Los Angeles Times reports that the Dodgers have made the Rays aware that they have some interest in Price should Tampa Bay decide to make him available in a trade. The report indicates that the Dodgers don't plan on aggressively pursuing Price, but they did want Tampa Bay to know that they'd be interested in him if he were available.
The Dodgers don't boast a plethora of young talent in their farm system and the team is working on rebuilding their minor league system, so the Los Angeles Times reports that a deal is unlikely, and if it were to go down it would probably be in exchange for teenage prospects infielder Corey Seager, 19, and left-hander Julio Urias, 17.
Price is arbitration eligible and won't be a free agent until after the 2015 season.
The 2012 Cy Young Award winner went 10-8 last season through 27 games for the Rays with a 3.33 ERA, 1.098 WHIP, 151 strikeouts and four complete games.
If the Dodgers were somehow able to land Price, he'd join a rotation that includes reigning NL Cy Young Award winner Clayton Kershaw (16-9, 1.83 ERA), former Cy Young Award winner Zack Greinke (15-4, 2.63 ERA) and Hyun-Jin Ryu (14-8, 3.00 ERA).
There have also been rumors that the Dodgers may be looking to trade one of their outfielders as the outfield has gotten crowded after the emergence of Yasiel Puig which could lead to Matt Kemp, Carl Crawford or Andre Ethier being moved.
For his career, Price is 71-39 through six seasons with the Rays after being drafted No.1 overall in 2007, with a 3.19 ERA, a 1.098 WHIP and 876 strikeouts.
It remains to be seen if the Rays will move Price, but the Dodgers are one of many teams that would be interested.
