The Boston Celtics are busy tweaking their roster, and the addition of Jrue Holiday is only the tip of the iceberg.

Aware that they need more help up front, the Celtics are reportedly giving Wenyen Gabriel a chance to crack the lineup.

To add more size to their roster, the Celtics allegedly signed the 26-year-old center-forward to a training camp deal, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, citing sources.

Gabriel will be an interesting prospect for the Celtics. The 6-foot-9 cager last saw action for the Los Angeles Lakers and made a good account of himself.

He spent two seasons with the purple and gold, averaging 5.7 points and 4.2 rebounds in 87 games, per Basketball-Reference.

Gabriel banking on FIBA World Cup performance momentum

Gabriel is coming off an impressive stint with South Sudan in the 2023 FIBA World Cup. He was instrumental in helping his country secure a spot in the 2024 Paris Olympics, averaging 9.2 points and 6.8 rebounds, Shams Charania of The Athletic reported.

The NBA veteran will bolster the frontline of the Celtics, which already has Al Horford and newcomer Kristaps Porzingis in the fold. He should be an interesting addition, especially considering the injury history of Porzingis and the fact that Horford is already of age, NBC Sports noted.

However, Gabriel must first prove his worth to crack the regular lineup. He will be a player to watch at the Boston Celtics' training camp. He could also fill up the void left by Robert Williams III, who was shipped alongside Malcolm Brogdon to the Portland Trail Blazers.
