New England Patriots head coach and general manager Bill Belichick, widely recognized as one of the greatest coaches in NFL history, experienced the most significant margin of defeat in his illustrious 29-year head coaching career against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, October 1, at the AT&T Stadium.

The Patriots were dominated by the Cowboys, 38-3, and the defeat pushed New England's season record to 1-3, good for last place in the AFC East.

This 35-point margin of defeat marked a new low for the 71-year-old coach, surpassing his previous career-worst loss with New England, a 31-0 defeat against the Buffalo Bills over two decades ago in 2003.

"We obviously didn't do much of anything well enough to be competitive tonight. So disappointing. Think we're a lot better team than what we showed out there tonight, but that's what we showed," the six-time Super Bowl champion head coach said.

Mac Jones pulled out of the game

Quarterback Mac Jones had a tough outing, completing 12 of 21 passes for 150 yards but committing two turnovers that were returned for touchdowns. In the game's final quarter, he was replaced by second-year player Bailey Zappe.

"There was no point in leaving him out there," Belichick said about taking Jones out of the game.

Despite the difficult evening, Belichick confirmed that Jones will remain the team's starter in their next game against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, October 8.
