The attorney for Florida State star quarterback Jameis Winston is demanding an apology from ESPN reporter Heather Cox after she peppered the Heisman Trophy candidate with a series of on-air questions about the rape allegations he was recently cleared of.
The redshirt freshmen star had just thrown for 330 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another score in leading the top-ranked Seminoles past Duke 45-7 in the ACC title game when a dogged Cox fired off four straight questions about the recently dismissed case.
In one instance, Winston somewhat generically answers "I've gotta get more mature. I've gotta get better at everything I do."
Later Cox asked "how come you decided not to talk during the process and on Thursday," prompting a FSU official to motion him to walk away.
"Heather Cox was classless and unprofessional after the game," Winston lawyer Tim Jansen wrote on Twitter. Trying to ambush a 19-year-old after the game with a flurry of inappropriate questions... when you realize ur actions were improper u can make amends. Please write me a note to Jameis and his family to apologize.
