Today at 1:00 p.m. ET the Buffalo Bills (4-8), out of the playoff hunt but trying to build on some positive themes for the future will travel to Tampa Bay to take on the Buccaneers (3-9), who just had a three-game winning streak snapped by the Carolina Panthers. Buffalo is 4-8 on the season, but they have faltered several times in late games, as well as committed untimely turnovers. That comes with the territory when using a rookie quarterback, but Bills coach Doug Marrone wants to see improvement down the stretch.
"We've got to learn how to win close games. We've got to learn how to win games on the road. We've got to finish teams," Marrone said on Monday after last week's defeat. "It was tough this morning. It's tough to swallow."
Bucs coach Greg Schiano, who appeared for a while to be the first coach to get the ax, has been happy with his team's rise to respectability late in the year, despite getting trounced by the Panthers.
"They're playing at a high level right now, yet I thought there were plenty of opportunities, especially early in the game to kind of set the course of the game where we'd be able to make it a fourth-quarter game," he said. "We didn't take advantage of it."
Like the Bills with E.J. Manuel, Bucs rookie passer Mike Glennon made some unfortunate mistakes he hopes he won't repeat against Buffalo. "He did some things (Sunday) that he hasn't done," said Schiano. "I think part of it has to do with the defense. He was trying to make something happen."
