Canadian tennis star Eugenie "Genie" Bouchard has announced a new stage in her professional playing career.

The 29-year-old will now play pickleball professionally, joining the Professional Pickleball Association's (PPA) Carvana Professional Pickleball Tour.

"With one of the biggest signings of the year @geniebouchard, professional tennis star with a WTA #5 career high in singles, joins the PPA Tour in 2024!," the organization announced.

The move puts her tennis career to a halt, but it is not clear yet how this decision will affect her overall tennis career.

Bouchard failed to advance in the ongoing US Open tournament after crashing out of the second-round qualifying match. She last appeared in a major Grand Slam in the 2020 French Open.

Similarly, American men's tennis player Jack Sock previously said at the end of August that he would retire from tennis, subsequently announcing that he has signed an exclusive contract with the Professional Pickleball Association.

Eugenie Bouchard was a Wimbledon finalist

Bouchard reached the final of the 2014 Wimbledon championships, facing Petra Kvitová.

However, the Canadian was no match for the Czech, as Kvitova handily won 6-3 6-0 en route to her second career Wimbledon title.

Bouchard reached a career-high world ranking of No. 5 in 2014, wherein she was named the WTA's most improved player of the year.
