The Los Angeles Lakers are signing big man Christian Wood to a two-year deal worth $5.7 million, according to league insider Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. The second year of the deal will be a player option.

The 27-year-old spent the 2022-23 NBA season with the Dallas Mavericks, averaging 16.6 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks, shooting 77% from the line in 67 games.

The Lakers have long been interested in Wood, and the player will take a significant pay cut from the $14.3 million he earned last season with the Mavericks.

The 6-foot-9 power forward/center reacted on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, about the news, saying that it has always been his dream to wear the iconic purple-and-gold uniform.

Wood is set to make $2.7 million for the upcoming campaign and $3 million if he decides to pick up his 2024-25 player option with the Lakers, per Bobby Marks of ESPN.

The Lakers will have a plethora of big men available in their roster, including star Anthony Davis, Jaxson Hayes, Jarred Vanderbilt, and Rui Hachimura.

Christian Wood dominated the Lakers on Christmas Day

Wood put on a show during his first Christmas game last December while playing for the Mavs, held at home against the Lakers.

The former UNLV player put up 30 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, four steals, and two blocks while shooting 12-of-17 from the field.

The Mavericks came out with a huge 124-115 win.
