Inter Miami took down defending MLS Cup champions Los Angeles FC on Sunday night, coming away with a 3-1 win at the BMO Stadium in Los Angeles.

Facundo Farias opened the scoring for the men in pink shirts in the 14th minute before Lionel Messi provided two assists in the second half to Jordi Alba and Leonardo Campana to give Inter Miami a runaway lead.

Ryan Hollingshead pulled back a goal for LAFC in the 90th minute, but it wasn't enough as Inter Miami stayed unbeaten since the arrival of the Argentine icon.

LAFC is also the current holder of the Supporters' Shield, an honor given to the MLS team with the best regular season record via the league's point system.

After the win, Messi outlined the team's main goal for the rest of the year.

"We're going to look to hit the objective of being among the best eight to try and win the league. This is the way. We continue growing and obviously winning provides a lot of confidence," the 36-year-old said in Spanish.
