Spanis soccer chief Luis Rubiales stands his ground amid his controversial kissing scandal involving Jenni Hermoso in Spain's 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup conquest.

The 36-year-old top brass refuses to take accountability for his actions and believes he is now a victim of the whole mess. Rubiales believes the government has not rightfully acted on the issue and is instead pressing against him, El Mundo reported.

"I am especially concerned that some of those who should proclaim and contribute to guaranteeing the separation of powers in our country, insist on taking part and pressing against me, instead of letting justice act with all the guarantees, staying on the sidelines," part of Rubiales statement sent via text message to the outlet read after translation.

Spanish government suffers setback in Rubiales case

This comes not long after the Spanish government suffered a setback in its attempt to remove Rubiales from his post, CNN reported.

TAD, Spain's Court of Arbitration, did agree to open a case against the beleaguered soccer chief on Friday, September 1. However, it rejected the government's argument that the actions of Rubiales were severe.

This has prevented the immediate suspension of Rubiales, forcing ministers to turn to the tribunal instead.

Minister of Culture and Sport Miquel Iceta plans to submit a separate complaint to TAD to request the removal of Rubiales until the investigation is resolved.

Rubiales has already been suspended by FIFA from all football-related activities for 90 days for his unacceptable behavior at the World Cup final.

With pressure mounting and Rubiales serving his suspension, Pedro Rocha Junco will oversee the organization in an interim capacity per Radio Estado.
