Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban revealed that a player's vices, such as partying, gambling, and smoking, determine how much money he gives them on their contract or their chances of staying in the team.

The famous owner said on Patrick Beverley's Pat Bev Podcast that he had traded away some players for smoking too much weed.

However, the issue that the 65-year-old businessman sees is not from a player smoking the psychoactive plant itself but the way it could influence other guys, especially young players.

"You don't want them going down that road. I mean, everyone smokes right. It's not about that, but there's smoking, how powerful the sh*t you're doing is and then there's how much you do," Cuban said.

He added that if someone gets past the level where there's a chance that they might drag someone with their excessive smoking habits, the player must learn to look at the bigger picture.

NBA finally permits players to use marijuana

The NBA will no longer punish players for using marijuana, according to stipulation in a tentative collective bargaining agreement reported last April, which will take effect in the 2023-24 NBA season.

The agreement states that marijuana will not be included in the league's drug testing program, and players will not be penalized if caught using it. The new CBA was ratified at the end of April.
