The Arizona Cardinals are taking a different approach to the 2023 NFL season, relying on an unproven quarterback.

This was after it was announced that the Cards do not plan to activate Kyler Murray once the new NFL starts, ESPN reported. The twist got even more interesting after Arizona announced on Monday that they were releasing veteran QB Colt McCoy in an official release.

Murray continues to recuperate from a torn anterior cruciate ligament he sustained in December. He is expected to miss the first four games of the Cardinals for the 2023 NFL season.

Hence, this means that the Cardinals will be banking on a couple of untested play-callers in Josh Dobbs and Clayton Tune.

It will be recalled that Arizona acquired the services of the 28-year-old QB from the Cleveland Browns together with a 2024 seventh-round pick. The Cardinals sent their 2024 fifth-round selection as part of the deal.

With the latest development, the Cardinals will rely on either Dobbs or Tune to begin at center for the 2023 NFL wars.

Toss-up between Dobbs and Tune

Tune has been trying to learn the Cardinals' offense for the longest time. He was impressive in the offseason, throwing 353 yards and a touchdown with just one interception in three games.

Despite being a newcomer, Dobbs has had his share of taking up the starting QB role with the Browns. This came at a time when Deshaun Watson was serving an 11-game suspension.

The 28-year-old initially served as backup to Jacoby Brissett but started in two games against the Tennessee Titans.

Unfortunately, Dobbs failed to make a good account of himself as the Browns dropped both games. The former Tennessee Volunteer threw 411 yards and two touchdowns in those two starts, ESPN reported.
