The Indianapolis Colts have finally allowed their star running back, Jonathan Taylor, to seek a trade around the league, according to NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Teams around the NFL are now gauging the proper value of the 24-year-old, while his agent Malki Kawa has begun the process of calling teams.
The Colts asking price for Taylor is not cheap, according to multiple reports. The team is seeking a first-round draft pick or a collection of picks equivalent to one in exchange for the running back.
The 2021 First Team All-Pro and Pro Bowl selection is entering the final year of his four-year rookie contract, where he is set to earn $4.3 million for the 2023 NFL season. The figure makes him the 18th-highest-paid running back in the league this year.
One month saga finally nears an end
The Jonathan Taylor-Indianapolis Colts conflict is finally reaching its final stages.
The dispute began nearly a month ago when Taylor requested a trade out of Indianapolis after disagreeing on a contract extension with the team at the end of July. However, Colts owner Jim Irsay publicly and bluntly denied Taylor's trade request.
Reports surfaced that Taylor had suffered a back injury while working out on his own over the summer, but Taylor denied this. He continued to rehab his surgically repaired ankle away from the team this month.
Taylor spent the whole preseason on the physically-unable-to-perform list of the Colts.
