Paris Saint-Germain has issued an ultimatum to superstar Kylian Mbappe if he stays with the club for the 2023-24 season without signing an extension.
The club has notified the 24-year-old that he will not be seeing a minute of action in the PSG kit this season if he is still in the French capital this summer, but Mbappe reportedly responded by saying that he will not be leaving in any circumstances this transfer window.
The France international's deal with PSG expires in June 2024, and the club is aiming to sell him off this summer to receive a windfall rather than let him leave for free next year.
Mbappe has now been training with the "loft" team outside of Luis Enrique's main team, a group of fringe and undesirable players in the squad, including Leandro Paredes, Georginio Wijnaldum, and Julian Draxler.
A report said that Mbappe told his teammates in the B squad that they could beat Enrique's main team in any competitive setting.
Consequences of letting Mbappe leave for free
PSG has informed Mbappe of the dire consequences of him leaving for free next year.
The club would have to sell several key players, review the integration policy for academy players trained at the club, and sack many club employees to offset the financial impact of his free departure, which would also affect Paris Saint-Germain's marketing side.
PSG paid $200 million to acquire an 18-year-old Mbappe from AS Monaco in 2017 on loan, which eventually turned into a permanent transfer.
