Derek Fisher was an exemplary role player, winning five championships with the Los Angeles Lakers.

As a coach, he deserves another chance.

He might need to climb his way back into the NBA this time, though, starting from a high basketball team.

Los Angeles-based media outfit reported that the former NBA player had taken a head coaching job at Crespi Carmelite High School.

Crespi, a private Catholic all-boys four-year college preparatory high school, is more known for producing future NFL and MLB players than future NBA stalwarts.

The appointment was announced by the school in a statement.

"We are honored and excited to welcome Coach Fisher to the Crespi Family," school athletic director Brian Bilek said.

"Coach Fisher brings to Crespi his strong work ethic, leadership, and discipline that are rooted in his Christian faith."

Fisher himself confirmed the gig in a statement released after Crespi's announcement.

"Coaching and teaching is a true passion," he said.

"And I look forward to continuing this focus on the next generation of young student-athletes. Go Crespi!!"

Fisher's coaching record in professional ranks

Fisher had difficulty finding success in the NBA as a head coach.

He only won 40 out of 136 games from 2014 to 2016 with the Knicks. His 17-16 record in Madison Square was the second worst that season.

He then moved on to the Los Angeles Sparks of the WNBA in 2019 and immediately found more success there.

He leads the Sparks to a Conference finals appearance. However, things went south for him from 2020 to 2022.

He was fired in his last year after only 12 games.
