The Boston Celtics have expressed interest in bringing back former six-time All-Star Blake Griffin on their roster for the 2023-24 NBA season, according to league insider Marc Stein.

It is unclear where Griffin's place will be in a loaded frontcourt that added star Kristaps Porzingis while letting go of Grant Williams. Al Horford and Robert Williams III are the other options remaining inside.

The three frontcourt players mentioned have battled recurring injuries at some point, and Griffin could provide depth and experience.

The 2011 NBA Slam Dunk Contest Champion spent the 2022-23 season in Boston, signing for the veteran's minimum deal worth $2.9 million in September 2022.

Griffin put up career lows in production and minutes but provided a veteran presence for a team with championship aspirations.

The 34-year-old averaged 4.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in 41 games played in the regular season. During the playoffs, Griffin only saw six minutes of total action throughout their run that went all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals.

A family challenge for Griffin

According to Bobby Manning of CLNS Media, the former number one overall pick is open to returning to Boston despite living far away from his family in case it materializes.

"I've heard the door remains open for his return despite the distance from family and his home on the west coast. Given that he mulled his options until October last year, it's worth assuming he'll follow a similarly deliberative process this summer," Manning said.
