Manchester City would have made their 2023 season better had they won the Community Shield for their fourth trophy.
However, Arsenal battled back and defeated them via penalties in a match marred by technicalities and issues with stoppage time.
City were leading 1-0 by the 77th minute until the 90th minute.
The referees decided there should be additional eight minutes of stoppage time. Then added five more when Kyle Walker and Thomas Partey had a confrontation.
Arsenal scored in the 11th minute of extra time to force a penalty shootout.

Guardiola believes the referees made the match longer and that the added time is a little bit "extra."
"We have to get used to it," he said. "I had the feeling, not because we were winning 1-0, but that not much happened to extend it for eight minutes."
"It's a good question for the international board and people because they don't consult with managers and players, and we have to accept it with this amount of games."
No charm in third time for Pep
This is the third straight time Pep Guardiola and his club played in the FA Community Shield, but they will still go home without a trophy in their case.
The Spanish coach regrets that they lost again but believes his squad is made to compete.
"We came here to win it. We were so close, but winning or losing, I know the position of the team."
"We would love to win today but sometimes you have to accept that."
