The Phoenix Suns have unveiled new Icon (purple) and Association (white) uniforms for the 2023-24 NBA season, which feature a modernized look of their popular sunburst jerseys from the early 1990s, as well as borrowing some elements from their previous jersey design introduced in 2017.
The new threads will be their primary attire as they enter a season full of championship expectations, following their summer acquisition of star Bradley Beal and the arrival of new head coach Frank Vogel, alongside holdover superstars Kevin Durant and Devin Booker.
"The sunburst is an iconic design that is one of the most popular among Suns fans; it represents some of the most defining moments in our team's history. These new uniforms seamlessly blend the nostalgia of the past with the excitement of the future as we begin the next great era of Suns basketball," team CEO Josh Bartelstein said.
The team's in-house creative department, Centercourt Studios, designed the uniforms in partnership with the league's official uniform and apparel supplier Nike.
Suns sunburst jersey, one of the most popular classic jerseys ever
The team asked for fan input regarding their favorite design among the Suns' previous uniforms throughout their history, and the iconic 90s jerseys ranked highest in the feedback.
Designers took inspiration from the fan-favorite uniforms to curate the newly-unveiled design.
The original sunburst jerseys, which debuted in the 1992-93 NBA season, remain among the most popular and cleanest-looking uniforms in the history of the NBA. They continued to wear the design until 2000.
Phoenix reintroduced the design for the 2022-23 season, designating it as their throwback uniform.
