Lando Norris shattered a valuable piece of hardware during the podium ceremony of the Hungarian Grand Prix.

While attempting to open his champagne bottle for the traditional celebrations, the McLaren driver inadvertently caused the winner's trophy of Max Verstappen to fall off the podium ramp, damaging the Red Bull driver's new hardware.

The handmade trophy takes six months to create, valued at around $45,000. It was made by the historic Herendi Porcelanmanufaktura Zrt (Herend Porcelain Manufactory), which was established in 1826 and served as a purveyor to powerful European dynasties and aristocratic individuals during the 19th century.

Verstappen and Norris are known to be best friends, and the reigning champion just laughed it off when he saw his trophy broken on the ground.

Norris finished P2 in the 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix behind Max Verstappen, who claimed his seventh consecutive victory and ninth overall this season. Teammate Sergio Perez took the final step on the podium after starting the race in ninth place.

McLaren resurgence continues

The resurgence of the world-famous team continued in Budapest after Norris and teammate Oscar Piastri qualified in P3 and P4, respectively.

During the opening lap, an entanglement between pole sitter Lewis Hamilton and Verstappen was taken advantage of by the rookie Piastri, who sat at P2 for a while, and P3/P4 for the majority of the race.

Perez and Hamilton eventually overtook Piastri as he settled for P5, which is still a sensational result compared to the early parts of the season, where the car was not assured of a top-ten finish.
