Longtime Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is set to leave the English club for a lucrative move to Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq, as confirmed by Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Al-Ettifaq will pay a transfer fee of around $15.5 million for the English midfielder, and they are reportedly offering a weekly wage of $905,000 to Henderson. This is a huge jump from his $245,000 weekly salary in Liverpool.

Henderson arrived via a transfer to Liverpool in 2011 after a long youth career with Sunderland, where he also began his senior career.

The Sunderland native was named the captain of Liverpool in 2015, following the departure of club legend Steven Gerrard, who will manage him in Al-Ettifaq.

The 33-year-old won eight trophies with the club, lifting seven as the captain, including the 2019-20 Premier League and the 2018-19 UEFA Champions League.

Liverpool legends at Al-Ettifaq

The Dammam-based club hired Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard to manage the team earlier this month.

The 43-year-old's deal with Al-Ettifaq has made him the fourth-highest-paid coach in the world football, netting almost $20 million a year to mentor the Saudi Arabian side. Only Manchester City's Pep Guardiola, Liverpool's Jurgen Klopp, and Atletico Madrid's Diego Simeone earn more.

Al Ettifaq is also targeting another Liverpool icon in Sadio Mane. The Senegalese forward's first season with Bayern Munich in 2022-23 was rather uneventful, and the German club is looking to unload him to raise funds to buy Harry Kane from Tottenham.
