Derrick Rose refused to completely rule out a return in the 2013-14 postseason on Thursday, as the Chicago Bulls star held his first press conference since undergoing his second major knee surgery in less than two years.
"If I'm healthy and the situation is right, I'm going to be back playing," Rose, who underwent surgery for a torn meniscus on Nov. 25, told ESPN. "If I'm healthy and my meniscus is fully healed, of course I'll be out there playing. But if it's something totally different and the outcome is not how I would want it to be, there's no need."
The Bulls initially declared the 25-year-old star point guard out for the season after following surgery and GM Gar Forman told ESPN he is "really out," regardless of the Bulls' potential for a postseason berth.
Whether he returns this season or next, Rose assured ESPN he will continue to be a superstar player. "You can be a fool if you want to," he said of those who now question if he can be a franchise player. "Dead serious. I know I'm going to be all right. I believe that I'm a special player."
Despite playing in just 50 games over the last three seasons, Rose later added "I believe that I'm a special player. I think people love the way that I just play. I don't try to impress anyone while I'm playing or anything. It's just the way that I play. I've just got a feel for the game and I know my story is far from done."
