Tonight at 7:00 p.m. ET at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, two struggling Big Apple basketball teams will duke it out for the heart of the city on TNT, as the Nets (5-13) host the New York Knicks (3-13) in a metropolitan clash that can be live streamed here. Knicks fans can listen to the game on 98.7 ESPN New York, while Nets fans may do the same by turning their dials to 101.9 WFAN FM.
Both teams' fan bases are sounding the panic alarm lately, while members of each side are getting down on themselves. Carmelo Anthony called his Knicks the "laughingstocks" of the league, while Nets head coach Jason Kidd said "Both teams stink."
Knicks head coach Mike Woodson is looking on the sunny side though; the Eastern Conference is down and despite the poor start the Atlantic division is rife with underachievers, leaving them unburied.
"You've got two teams that expectations were high coming into the season and we've both have had our struggles," Woodson said. "But again, if they're looking at it like we're looking at it, nobody's running away with the division and I still think our team can win the division."
Part of the reason for each team's poor start has been injuries. The Knicks have lost starting center and defensive anchor Tyson Chandler to a broken leg, while various injuries have hit Raymond Felton and J.R. Smith.
For Brooklyn, point guard Deron Williams has missed time, as has Brook Lopez. Now, Andrei Kirilenko, Paul Pierce and Jason Terry are also out.
Kevin Garnett will look to shoulder a heavier load while these losses pile up. "I think at this point we're trying to figure out who we are and fix this," Garnett said. "We're at home and getting beat by 30, 40 points. That's not what we want, that's not even close to what we were predicted or where we want to be."
