Love can really make you do crazy things. Just ask Will Smith-or Derek Carr, who turned his back on his team for nine years.
The star quarterback had a falling out with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2022 due to demotion in favor of Jarrett Stidham, although the two parties agreed they would go separate ways.
There was a chance of reconciliation before he signed with the Saints, but Carr said his wife was the deciding factor for his departure.
Talking to The Bee, the 34-year-old four-time Pro Bowl awardee said his wife, Heather Neel, played a major role in his exit from the Raiders.
"Once they made my wife cry, that was pretty much over," he said during the interview without getting into the specifics.
"Once they made her cry, that was out. But the love for my teammates is what probably would have made me do it. But the way it worked out and the timing of things, I was just ... it was time for me to move on. But who knows? You never know what will happen."
Carr left Las Vegas with the most yards passing (35,222) and touchdown passes (217).
Moving on with the Saints
While he also wishes his friends and former teammates over at Raiders success, he said his priority now is the Saints. Carr feels optimistic about training camps, especially with the presence of veterans who want to prove themselves.
"It's one of the more competitive, as many camps I've ever been a part of. We have so many veterans that are really trying to prove it every day and trying to beat each other every day, talking trash. It was so competitive and so fun to be a part of."
