Many Arsenal fans felt disheartened in their pursuit of West Ham United's Declan Rice when it was announced that Manchester City joined the race.
Things might turn out the opposite of what they are feeling, though, as reports say the England national team captain would rather be close to his home because his baby was born last year.
"Rice would be more likely to start regularly at Arsenal, and his preference remains to stay in London," The Guardian reported Wednesday.
"The England international became a father last year and is extremely close to his family. Rice also admires Arteta's football and Arsenal should not have any problems when it comes to personal terms."

Rice is just coming off a successful 2023 season, winning the UEFA Conference League and being named the UEFA Europa Conference League Player of the Season.
What's the remaining hurdle?
The London rivals failed to come to terms during the first negotiations for Rice. West Ham did not accept the previous offers made by the Gunners, which was $76 million plus around $19 million in add-ons. Arsenal revised this and offered $95 million while the amount of the add-ons was retained.
However, Arsenal decided the $95 million payment would be spread over five years.
It is believed that Arsenal will have to make Rice its record signing by raising the transfer fee to $127 million.
Rice is a coveted signing by the Gunners as manager Mikel Arteta looks to toughen up its midfield after finishing second in the last Premier League season.
