The hardest part is done.

That is how Texas Ranger star Jacob deGrom described his journey to recovery as he gives fans an update on when he will be back on the pitch.

The 34-year-old underwent reconstructive surgery to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow.

This is not the first time deGrom underwent such surgery, getting it while he was a rookie with the Mets. It also helped that his surgeon was Dr. Keith Meister, one of the most sought-after orthopedic surgeons in the sports world.

"I know what it takes to come back," deGrom told reporters.

"It takes a lot of hard work and sticking with the program, not trying to do too much. That's where it became tricky my first time. I felt good and really wanted to keep going."

Most Probable Return of $185 Million Man

Texas and deGrom agreed to a $185 million, five-year deal last December, but fans will have to wait a little more to see the veteran pitcher throwing fastballs again.

The typical full recovery schedule for a UCL tear is 12 to 14 months. DeGrom said August 2024 is his target return.

"Now it's over with. It feels good. Everything went well. I look forward to doing all the rehab stuff to get back out there."

Jacob deGrom is a two-time NL Cy Young awardee and was an All-Star for four seasons. He is worth the wait for Rangers fans.
