Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola made history on Saturday after his team won its maiden UEFA Champions League trophy, narrowly beating Inter Milan 1-0 in the final.
Guardiola became the first manager in history to complete the European treble more than once.
The mentor completed his first treble during his first season managing a top-flight team during the 2008-09 season with boyhood club FC Barcelona.
The Spanish team went on to win six trophies in 2009, a feat Manchester City will not be able to replicate this year after crashing out of the EFL Cup last January.
Manchester City Finally Conquer Europe
Manchester City finally captured the elusive Champions League trophy after several seasons of disappointments, most notably losing in the final of the same tournament two years ago.
The club had its most successful season in history in 2022-23, completing the European treble by winning the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League.
City joined their local rivals Manchester United as the only English team to complete the treble. United achieved the feat under Sir Alex Ferguson during the 1998-99 season.
However, the Guardiola-managed squad came up short in completing the English treble after being eliminated by Southampton in the quarterfinals of the EFL Cup in January.
Despite this, the two trophies won by the club domestically this year are generally considered the most prestigious honors in England.
