After a disappointing playoff exit, the Phoenix Suns hired Frank Vogel as their next head coach. The 49-year-old mentor is set to sign a five-year, $31.25 million deal with Phoenix.

Vogel last coached the Los Angeles Lakers from 2019 to 2022. He brought the 2020 championship to the purple-and-gold franchise during the NBA bubble.

The new Suns' coach will now handle Kevin Durant and Devin Booker together in Phoenix.

Vogel has a rich history of coaching the premier players in the league.

During his first head coaching gig with the Indiana Pacers, he oversaw the ascension of Paul George as one of the best two-way players in the league. They reached the Eastern Conference Finals twice in 2013 and 2014, losing both against the Miami Heat.

His next coaching stop with the Orlando Magic was relatively uneventful, missing the playoffs in his two seasons with the team.

Vogel then accepted the role of coaching the Los Angeles Lakers in 2019, wherein the team was coming off a blockbuster summer, acquiring star Anthony Davis to pair with LeBron James.

He transformed the Lakers into a top defensive team in his first year, and a global pandemic did not stop them from winning a title.

Two disappointing seasons followed, losing in the first round of the playoffs in an injury-hit campaign in 2021 while missing the postseason entirely in 2022.

The Lakers released the two-time NBA All-Star Game head coach after three seasons in April 2022.

Fans had varying opinions of the hiring on social media.
