Karim Benzema Could Play in Saudi Arabia
Reports vary, but the 2022 Ballon d'Or winner has been offered the same deal as former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo - $439 million for two seasons, according to an article on ESPN.
Benzema received the official proposal last Sunday before Real Madrid's match against Sevilla. The Frenchman is discussing with his camp and family their next move.
Real Madrid has been informed about this, and they are ready to offer Benzema a new deal if the striker decides to continue in the Spanish capital. He is expected to make his decision within the week.
Benzema signed a one-year contract worth $9.2 million before the 2022-23 season started.
Spanish paper El Mundo reported a different offer figure but provided more details about the perks from the oil-rich country.
The report said that the offer came directly from the Saudi Arabian government, including a tax-free salary of $107 million annually, the choice of any club in the Saudi Arabian league, 100% control over his image rights, and any private residence.
The deal stipulates that Benzema would have to be an ambassador for the country's 2030 FIFA World Cup bid.
