On Sunday, the Boston Celtics defeated the Philadelphia 76ers 112-88 to move on to the Eastern Conference finals for the second year in a row, largely thanks to Jayson Tatum's impressive performance.
Tatum scored a record-breaking 51 points, the most ever scored in a Game 7 in NBA history. Additionally, he achieved a rare feat for the Celtics, becoming the first player in franchise history to record over 40 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 3-pointers made in a single playoff game.
Jayson Tatum's Momentum
The Sixers' hopes of advancing in the NBA playoffs were dashed once again, as they lost in the conference semifinals for the third consecutive year and the fifth time in six seasons.
Despite the efforts of newly crowned NBA MVP Joel Embiid, who scored 15 points on 5-for-18 shooting, and Tobias Harris, who contributed 19 points, the Sixers could not make it past this stage of the playoffs.
This marks a disappointing result for the team, who have yet to make it any further to the NBA Finals since their appearance in 2001.
In a crucial Game 6, Boston Celtics player Jayson Tatum struggled to find his rhythm early on, starting 0 for 6 from the field and missing 14 of his first 15 shots overall. However, he exploded in the game's final minutes, hitting four 3-pointers in the last 4:14 to force a decisive Game 7.
Tatum carried his momentum into the next game, dominating from the start with 11 points in the first quarter, followed by 14 more in the second. He outscored the entire Philadelphia team by himself in the third quarter, putting up 17 points compared to the Sixers' 10. This impressive performance led to a 33-10 edge for Boston in the third quarter, making it the most one-sided quarter in a Game 7 since at least 1997.
