Hip hop star Drake has announced he is teaming up with the Air Jordan brand in a new endorsement deal.

Mere days after fellow rap star Kanye West ranted about parting ways with parent company Nike, Drake revealed during a performance on the sneaker giant's Portland home base that he is now "Team Jordan."

According to AllHipHop.com, Drake later added "growing up I'm sure we all idolized this guy. He goes by the name of Michael Jordan. So, I totally came to Portland, and I officially became inducted into the Team Jordan family."

An avid NBA fan, earlier this year the 28-year-old Canadian-born rapper was named as a "global ambassador" for the Toronto Raptors. In announcing the partnership, team officials added he would also be responsible for helping to host and promote NBA All-Star Game festivities slated to be held there in 2016.

The team added he would also be entrusted with working to rebrand and redesign the team's image and clothing line in honor of the franchise's upkeeping 20th anniversary season in 2014-15.

At the time of the signing, Drake told reporters "obviously, I won't be in the building every day, but I am extremely dedicated to it. I do take it seriously as a new job and a new chapter in my life."
