Too Dangerous for Oscar De La Hoya to Stay
De La Hoya owns Golden Boy Promotions, which backs Garcia. The boxing promoter received a lot of criticism for not being present with his fighter after they lost to "Tank" by a knockout. However, De La Hoya reassured his followers that Garcia was being cared for.
De La Hoya said that Eric Gomez, the President of Golden Boy, was present alongside Ryan Garcia, and everything went smoothly without any difficulties.
He explained that his security team advised him to leave the event as he had been receiving death threats throughout the week, and it was deemed too dangerous for him to stay.
He also mentioned that Bernard Hopkins, his partner, and former boxer, was not allowed to attend the post-fight news conference due to allegations of having testosterone cream on his hands during weigh-ins.
Despite missing the media session and Garcia's defeat, De La Hoya expressed pride in Garcia and stated that the "best man" won. He assured Garcia that he and Hopkins supported him and that he would come back stronger and better than ever.
Garcia, 24, suffered his first defeat as a professional boxer when Davis hit him with a powerful punch to the liver during the seventh round. Davis, who is 28 years old, declared himself the top fighter in the sport after his impressive victory, which improved his record to 29 wins and 0 losses, with 27 of those wins coming by knockout.
