The Green Bay Packers have dominated the Detroit Lions lately, winning their last five meetings. The Packers will look to make it six wins in a row when they travel to the Motor City to face the Lions for their regular-season finale. Who will prevail in this Packers vs Lions clash? Here's a breakdown of this NFC North matchup.
Green Bay Packers installed as -4 favorites
Green Bay extended its winning streak to five games with a commanding 37-10 victory over the Minnesota Vikings in Week 17. It was an important win for the Packers, who secured the No. 1 seed in the NFC with a game to spare. They hold a one-game lead over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Los Angeles Rams heading into Week 18, with Green Bay holding the tiebreakers against both teams.
Despite having the top seed in the NFC locked up, the Packers have no plans to rest their stars against the Lions in Week 18. That would be good news for DaVante Adams, who is closing in on Jordy Nelson's single-season team record of 1,519 receiving yards that he set back in 2014. Adams has caught a franchise record of 117 passes for 1,498 yards this season.
Adams has been on fire lately, grabbing 52 catches for 634 yards and eight touchdowns over his last six games. He is the fourth player in the history of the NFL to record at least 110 catches in three seasons.
Aaron Rodgers will also be looking to bolster his MVP candidacy with a solid performance against Detroit. Like Adams, Rodgers has been lights out the last six games, throwing for 18 touchdowns and no interceptions. Rodgers loves playing against Detroit, recording 50 touchdown passes and just eight interceptions in his career against the Lions.
Detroit Lions enter Week 18 as +4 underdogs
The Detroit Lions dropped to 2-13-1 after a humiliating 51-29 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Week 17. The Lions had no answer for Russell Wilson, who threw for 236 yards and four touchdowns. The Lions ended their road campaign in 2021 without a victory, posting a 0-8-1 slate in their away games.
The good news for the Lions is that they will finish their season at home. They have won their last two games at Ford Field, beating both Minnesota and Arizona. For the Lions to extend their home winning streak to three games, they will need to get another solid showing from Amon-Ra St. Brown.
He caught eight passes for 111 yards and a score in the loss to the Seahawks. St. Brown made history with that performance as he became the first NFL rookie to record at least eight catches in five consecutive games. If he records at least 90 yards receiving and a touchdown in the game against the Packers, St. Brown will join Odell Beckham Jr. and Randy Moss as the only NFL rookies to post those numbers in four straight games.
