The entire football community is in mourning after the passing of former Denver Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas. Police authorities from Roswell, Georgia, confirmed the unfortunate news on Thursday night, with preliminary reports indicating that Thomas' sudden demise might have resulted from a medical issue.

Seizures to blame for Thomas' death?

Thomas' first cousin LaTonya Bonseigneur talked to The Associated Press about the incident, saying that their family believes he died from a seizure. Bonseigneur said, "He had been suffering from seizures for over a year, and we believe he had a seizure when he was showering." Bonseigneur was unsure when exactly Thomas died as they just spoke with him the day before he was found dead.

Tributes came pouring in for the fallen Broncos star. The Broncos released a statement early Friday, mourning the loss of one of the greatest players in the history of their organization.

The Broncos said, "We are devastated and completely heartbroken by the sudden, tragic passing of Demaryius Thomas." They added that D.T. was loved by their entire organization, his teammates and coaches, and their fans. They were very much looking forward to celebrating Demaryius for years to come after he retired as a Bronco this past offseason.

The Broncos also posted a message on Twitter, saying that "Demaryius' humility, warmth, kindness and infectious smile will always be remembered by those who knew him and loved him."

Thomas had a stellar NFL career, playing 10 seasons overall with the Broncos, New York Jets, and the Houston Texans. He recorded 724 catches for 9,763 yards and 63 touchdowns with those three teams.

However, he made a name for himself during his time with Denver. He was a major contributor in the Broncos' record-setting 2013 season, finishing with a career-best 14 touchdowns that year. Thomas followed that up in 2014 with a career-best 1,619 receiving yards. The Broncos won some big games with Thomas at the peak of his powers, capturing two AFC Championship titles and the Super Bowl 50 crown.

Peyton Manning, who was the quarterback of those Broncos teams, paid tribute to Thomas on Friday, saying DT was a Hall of Fame player and that he was a better person than a player. Manning said Thomas treated his kids like they were his own and that he was always there for every teammate's charity events. Manning concluded his statement by saying he was devastated by Thomas' death.

Broncos wide receivers coach Zach Azzanni tweeted that he is sad and heartbroken. Georgia Tech also paid tribute to its former star, posting a picture of Thomas with the caption "Rest in peace, Bay Bay."
