Ronaldo Dedicates Man UTD Return to Sir Alex Ferguson: Will He Wear No. 7 in His Second Coming?

The biggest transfer in the Premier League this season was finally confirmed on Tuesday, with Cristiano Ronaldo and Manchester United agreeing on a two-year contract with an option to extend for a further year.

The 5-time Ballon d'Or winner released a statement for the first time since the blockbuster deal was announced last Friday. He said that Manchester United is a club that always had a special place in his heart and that he "can't wait to play at Old Trafford in front of a full stadium and see all the fans again."

The soccer icon opened up further about the shock move on Instagram, saying, "Everyone who knows me, knows about my never ending love for Manchester United." He said that he can't even explain his feelings right now and that his return to United is the "stuff that dreams are made of."

Ronaldo pays tribute to Sir Alex as he relives his glory years with United

Ronaldo recalled all of his accomplishments during his time with United. He said that with the Red Devils, he won his first domestic league title, his first Cup, his first call to the Portuguese National team, his first Champions League, his first Golden Boot, and his first Ballon d'Or.

He further whetted the appetite of his adoring United fans when he said that "History has been written in the past and history will be written once again! You have my word!" Ronaldo concluded his post by paying tribute to his mentor and former manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, saying, "This one is for you."

The partnership between Ronaldo and Ferguson has been a fond memory for United fans as they were part of the club's glory years before their recent decline. During his first spell with United from 2003 to 2009, Ronaldo won three Premier League titles, one FA Cup, two League Cups, one Club World Cup, one Community Shield, and their last Champions League title in 2008.

Ronaldo to wear No. 7 again?

Ronaldo's move back to Old Trafford may now be official, but the number he will wear in his return is still a big question mark at this point. Ronaldo wore the iconic No. 7 shirt before for Manchester United, but that isn't available with Edinson Cavani, the holder of that number right now.

However, Manchester United had asked the Premier League for a special dispensation to allow Ronaldo to wear his old number back with Cavani set to switch to No. 21, his shirt number for the Uruguay national team. That move became possible after Daniel James, who wore No. 21 before for Manchester United, completed a move to Leeds United on transfer deadline day.
