Day 7 of the Tokyo Olympics promises to be a spectacle for sports fans, with track and field competitions set to begin today. Team USA will also look to extend its lead in the medal tally in swimming with Lilly King, Annie Lazor, Ryan Murphy, Abbey Weitzeil, and Michael Andrew, the Americans' main medal hopefuls in the pool on Day 7.

It's also the start of the knockout rounds in the women's soccer event, with the United States taking on the Netherlands in the quarterfinals. Day 7 will also see Team USA open its baseball campaign in the Tokyo Olympics.

Swimming and track and field events take center stage on Day 7

The first medal in the track and field competitions will be handed out today in the men's 10,000-meter race with Americans Grant Fischer, Woody Kincaid, and Joe Klecker set to make their Tokyo Olympics debut.

Before that medal race, preliminary rounds will occur in the women's 100-m, women's 800-m, women's 5000-m, men's 3000-m steeplechase, men's 400-m hurdles, and the mixed 4x400-m relay, a new event in the Olympics. Track and field action begins at 8 p.m. ET and can be seen live on NBC's streaming service Peacock.

Team USA has dominated the swimming competitions here in the Tokyo Olympics as the Americans lead the medal table with 21, including six golds. They can extend their lead even further on Day 7 with Lilly King and Annie Lazor set to compete in the women's 200-m breaststroke, Ryan Murphy in the men's 200-m backstroke, Abbey Weitzeil in the women's 100-m freestyle, and Michael Andrew in the men's 200-m individual medley. Pool action starts at 9:30 p.m. ET with NBC airing the primetime broadcast.

Team USA takes on the Netherlands in women's soccer quarterfinals

The United States women's national team (USWNT) will be tested right away in the knockout stage of the women's soccer competition, with the Netherlands standing in their way in the quarterfinals in a rematch of the 2019 World Cup final.

The Americans have struggled out of the gates, recording just one win in their opening three group games. As a result, they finished second in Group G, leading to an early matchup with the high-flying Dutch. Unlike Team USA, Netherlands dominated in the group stage, scoring a total of 21 goals in the three preliminary games.

The key for USWNT in this matchup is to slow down Dutch striker Vivianne Miedema. She has been on fire in this tournament, already breaking the record for most goals scored in an Olympic Games with eight thus far. Action on the pitch starts at 7 a.m. ET with NBCSN providing the live broadcast.

Team USA also will begin its baseball campaign in the Tokyo Olympics today, with the Americans taking on Israel in their opening match. Leading the way for Team USA in baseball's grand return to the Olympics are two-time MLB All-Star and former New York Yankee Todd Frazier and Miami Marlins' minor leaguer Eddy Alvarez. The game starts at 6 a.m. ET and can be seen live on Peacock.
