Despite Heisman Trophy candidate Jameis Winston being involved in an ongoing sexual assault investigation, the quarterback describes the football field as a safe place for him. Winston led Florida State to a dominant 80-14 win last Saturday and will look to keep rolling.
The football field is a sanctuary to me," Winston told ESPN. "... When all of us are on the field everything is just zoned out."
Winston is 199-for-286 (69.6%) for 3,168 yards with 32 touchdowns and seven interceptions and has rushed for 136 yards on 62 carries with three scores.
The Seminoles, which have already set school records under Winston this year, are looking for a perfect season with a win over rival Florida.
Winston threw for 225 yards and four touchdowns last week and said that he will keep his mind on football, not the ongoing investigation.
"I mentally prepare myself for football ... always football," Winston said via ESPN.
The Gators are suffering through their first losing season since 1979 and lost 26-20 to Georgia Southern last week. Despite their struggles, coach Will Muschamp believes that his team can win the division next season.
"I don't believe we're that far off," he said Monday, according to ESPN. "Regardless of the results Saturday afternoon, which is all disappointing for everyone, starting with me, I just don't feel like we're that far off."
Despite both teams heading in opposite directions, the rivalry is still alive between the Seminoles and the Gators and both will be looking to win when they hit the field this afternoon.
