On Wednesday, the 1994 rare card of former football player Dwayne Johnson was auctioned on eBay for $13,988.

PWWCC Marketplace, the largest trading card marketplace in the world, has sold the vintage football card of now wrestler and actor Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

The Rock's 1994 card was described as a punctured sheet of paper, but the Professional Sports Authenticator authorized it with a graded Gem Mint 10.

Out of several rising football cards these days, Dwayne Johnson's football card was only one of the many graded cards of that kind that are still available in the trading card market.

Dwayne Johnson cards reportedly comprised of less than 50 percent of cards in the market. There are reportedly less than 50 of the Dwayne Johnson cards from the old set.

It was considered a holy grail among all Dwayne Johnson cards. The Rock's rare card had vivid green borders surrounding an image of him in quarterback suit.

It reminds the people of The Rock's short legacy in football, wherein the now 48-year-old actor had spent time with the University of Miami.

Dwayne Johnson's card was a late bloomer in the football card collection. It was overshadowed by the most expensive cards of famous players like Michael Jordan, Mike Trout, Tom Brady, and Patrick Mahomes.

The recent acquisition of The Rock's football card proved how serious was the card business for those who truly knew its true value.

Many have believed that the art of collecting football cards had died a long time ago. It was only in October when Dwayne Johnson recognized that his 1994 Bumble Bee Tuna football card increased in terms of market value.

The wrestling star acknowledged the sudden price spike of his football card. In a post on Twitter, The Rock treasured his short stint in Miami, which led to his cool memorabilia. He congratulated the new owner of his football card.

It's still a mystery who won the mind-boggling auction of The Rock's Miami card on eBay. As a person who only scrolls for sports cards, we could have thought that the $14,000 expense will come already with a free shipping fee. The case hit the opposite, as the $50 shipping fee was excluded from the auctioned price.

Previously, the University of Miami football card of Dwayne Johnson has been sold at a market price ranging $2,293 in 2015.

It started to gain attention to the collectors following a $9,000 value last October, despite Dwayne Johnson admitting that no one gave attention to his cards when they first came out in the market.

During the 1994 season with the Miami Hurricanes, The Rock mentioned his star-studded teammates Ray Lewis, Warren Sapp, and Bob Marley's son Rohan Marley who were the go-to players at the time.

Dwayne Johnson was part of the Miami Hurricanes championship squad in 1991.

For everyone wondering why the sports card industry is a booming business, Jared Bleznick, the co-founder of Blez Sports Cards, has this to say.

"You never know what's going to be inside a pack and all it takes is one pack. You hear stories all the time about a guy randomly coming in and spending $100 and then all of a sudden he gets a card worth $50,000. There are not many industries where that is even possible so that thrill and the constant chase and pursuit is what people just love," Bleznick told Forbes.
