Top 10 Athletes Who Are Bad Examples in Sports

Being a good role model in sports lets the fans decide who to support. Often, scandals and controversies are common, but when the demeanor gets involved, it only worsens an athlete's appeal - the scumbags in the making.

It is acceptable that a sports model may commit a mistake during the game. It only hits different when it becomes an addiction, an immoral action, and a repetition. It only takes seconds for some athletes to transform into the worst from iconic models. Some are bad on the court, and others are worse off the court.

Let's now discuss the athletes who made the cut to the top 10 athletes who are bad examples in sports.

10. Grayson Allen

Grayson Allen is no different from the line of the worst scumbags. When he was in Duke University, he was a disgrace to the Blue Devils. It could be a coincidence that the team's moniker fits him. It could also be that he is undoubtedly the best player to play the role of a villain. In 2016, his presence was unwelcomed by a booing crowd. Allen tripped Louisville Cardinals forward Raymon Spalding. He received a flagrant foul after the incident.

In the NBA, it seems that Allen never learned his lesson. A 2018 draftee, Allen became much worse in his second year in the NBA with the Memphis Grizzlies. The shooting guard was ejected when he hit Boston Celtics rookie Grant Williams in the head. He received flagrant fouls during the Summer League. Clearly, he loves hurting others for his relief.

9. Tonya Harding

Tonya Harding is not a typical sports scumbag. It was in 1994 when her scandal, the knee whacking incident, erupted. Her former husband, Jeff Gillooly, decided to take matters on his hands for Harding's skating stint. Gilooly planned to take down Nancy Kerrigan, Harding's number one rival.

Kerrigan was practicing in Michigan when she was attacked. It might be a case of a different motive for Gilooly, but Harding's involvement surfaced when she pleaded guilty to Gilooly's involvement. As a result, she was permanently banned from competing in skating.

8. Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods is a nominee for the scumbag award? What happened? In 2009, the then No.1 golf player was believed to have an affair with Rachel Uchitel. His wife, Elin Nordegren, found out about Wood's illicit relation with the nightclub owner. Worse was Woods' involvement in sex scandals with pornstars, strippers, prostitutes, and waiters.

7. Johnny Manziel

Johnny Manziel used to be a star player in college, but when he was drafted by the Cleveland Browns, things turned sour. He was arrested for misconduct and faking his identification, for which he was found guilty in the judicial court. The Cleveland Browns released him after. Manziel was also involved in domestic violence with his former girlfriend.

6. Lamar Odom

Lamar Odom was a forward with the Los Angeles Lakers when he became famous for his relationship with Khloe Kardashian. Odom married Kardashian until people kept guessing what happened one day to the two. The divorce followed in 2015, and police found Odom unconscious on the floor. Reports said that he suffered a drug overdose, but he recovered. Kardashian kept receiving death threats from Odom, and that was the reason why the two broke up.

5. Lenny Dykstra

Lenny Dykstra was a three-time All-Star in baseball when his career crashed. Dykstra fell into several vices and was arrested and jailed for credit card fraud, money laundering, and theft.

From an All-Star to a bank scumbag who ended up in jail, that's what Dykstra achieved after quitting baseball.

4. Lance Armstrong

Winning is an understatement for Lance Armstrong after clinching seven Tour de France titles in cycling. He was popular among fans, but doping speculations continued to be louder around him. He was guilty of leading a doping program among competing cyclists.

His awards were taken away from him, and he was banned from joining the competition. When he was asked if he would return to doping, he straight up said, "Probably."

3. Ray Rice

When the Baltimore Ravens won the 2012 Super Bowl, people already knew who to call for an MVP shout. In two years, Rice was arrested for punching his fiancee in an elevator in the casino where he was gambling. She passed out after the heavy strike from the running back. The video footage circulated online, and it went viral.

The Ravens issued a termination to Rice, and he received an indefinite suspension in the NFL two years later. He has not played football since 2013.

2. Rae Carruth

It took Rae Carruth one year to plot a gruesome scene that had become a nightmare. He was drafted in 1997 by the Carolina Panthers, and shortly, he planned to kill his pregnant girlfriend, Cherica Adams, in a drive-by ambush. Adams did not die right after the shooting, but she passed away 28 days later in the hospital.

Carruth was released from prison after 18 years of jail time. The hitman that he hired for his murder plot was sentenced to 10 years of prison time. He was relieved in 2011.

1. O.J. Simpson

Dubbed as "The Juice," Simpson got a wonderful run in his previous jobs in the NFL, broadcasting, and acting. In 1994, the revelation shocked the fans when Simpson was charged with two counts of murder of his former wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ron Goldman.

He lost the civil lawsuit after the judge found him to be responsible for the deaths of Brown and Goldman. The victims' families were handed $33.5 million in the civil trial verdict.

Simpson was involved not only in the murder but also in the kidnapping, felony, and robbery. He served in jail for 33 years but was released on parole in 2017.
