Barcelona dominated Villarreal 4-0 in La Liga on Sunday.
The winning team's left-winger Ansu Fati got the opening score with the help of left-back teammate Jordi Alba 15 minutes into the game. Fati added a second score in the 19th minute but it was Lionel Messi who scored a third for the team in the 35th minute. Sergio Asenjo, Villarreal's goalkeeper, just could not stop the incoming scores from a relentless Barcelona. Finally, Villarreal center backs Pau Torres put the ball into his net while trying to stop Messi.
With a score of 4 to none, Barcelona dominated the second half but was not lucky enough to get some goals.
"We dropped our intensity a bit in the second half, and they made things more difficult for us, but overall, we leave our first game with good sensations. We're close to the team we want to be," Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets commented on the game after the half time.
This is Ronald Koeman's debut as a coach for the Barcelona team. Many wanted an overhaul of the team, but it did not get any. However, that is not to say that the current team composition is not strong. Fans were wondering since the team lacked someone who can lead an attack like Antoine Griezmann. They will have to see how the team makes its attack.
Koeman appears to have a good start, and this will hopefully continue throughout the season. He succeeded former coach Quique Setien last August.
On the other hand, Villarreal got a strong boost with incoming members Dani Parejo and Francis Coquelin. The team seems to have pretty low defense, especially against a team as agile as Barcelona. Coach Unai Emery and the team will have to find a way to keep up with the opposing team's speed.
