Charles Barkley and Shaquille O'Neal Face Criticism For Opinions on Breonna Taylor Case

Charles Barkley is now the target of criticism due to his comments on the Breonna Taylor case. He commented on the "NBA on TNT" pregame show last Thursday night.

"We have to take into account that her boyfriend did shoot at the cops and shot a cop. So like I say, even though I'm sorry she lost her life, I don't think we can put this in the same situation as George Floyd and Ahmaud Arbery, I just don't believe that" the basketball analyst shared his opinion about the case.

Co-host Shaquille O'Neal agreed with Barkley's thoughts: "I have to agree with Charles. This one is sort of lumped in."

"When you talk about murder, you have to show intent. A homicide occurred, and we're sorry a homicide occurred. When you have a warrant signed by the judge, you are doing your job, and I would imagine that you would fire back."

Both former basketball legends are now facing backlash from netizens. Many were shocked by the former Philadelphia 76er's remarks, especially with the part where Taylor's boyfriend shooting at the cops first.

Sports reporter Jemele Hill had some strong comments against the TNT crew:

Last March, Taylor was shot when Kentucky police served a search warrant and broke the front door. This has led to a call for racial justice and police reform the same way other deaths of unarmed African-Americans have.

George Floyd suffocated to death when a Minneapolis officer pinned him to the ground on the neck. Like Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery was also shot while taking a jog as two White men chased him. Both instances were caught on video and were discussed on social media.

One week earlier, an officer was indicted for firing blindly into an apartment residence. The other two officers were not indicted because the Kentucky Attorney General can justify that the shooting was out of self-defense. One of the said officers was shot and wounded by Taylor's boyfriend, who had fired first. However, there were no charges relevant to Taylor's death.
