Los Angeles Clippers coach Doc Rivers remains one of troubled NBA veteran Lamar Odom's biggest fans.
Of reality TV star Khloe Kardashian's wayward husband, Rivers told the L.A. Times this week "I like Lamar. I want to him to be in the NBA."
The Times reports the Clippers continue to monitor Odom's progress after confirming they met with him for more than two hours earlier this month. Soon after talking with the team, Odom embarked on an excursion to his Rhode Island alma mater where he has been regularly working out in hopes of launching a comeback.
"I'm going to keep talking to him," Rivers told The Times. "I don't know what are plans are yet... "Having said that, I just want him to do well. Obviously, if he does well, we'd like for it to be for us. But let's say he doesn't come here and he does well in the NBA, I'd be just as happy, honestly. I look at the guy and I think he's a good guy and he needs another shot."
Odom, who the newspaper reports is expected back in L.A. this week, played last season for the Clippers, and all the reports Rivers insists he's received about his time there and beyond have been glowing.
"They loved him in the locker room and they loved him on the team," Rivers said of Phil Jackson and Vinny Del Negro, two of the last NBA coaches Odom has played for. "That tells me something about the guy."
The Times adds the plan is for Odom to visit the Clippers' practice facility this week and again spend time with team officials.
