Tonight at 7:30 p.m. ET, the Boston Bruins (16-6-2, 34 points) and Detroit Red Wings (11-7-7, 29 points) square off live from the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit in the third of four meetings this season. The game can be live streamed here. Boston fans can hear all of the bone-crunching action by turning their dials to 98.5 The Sports Hub while Detroit fans can do the same on 97.1 The Ticket.
Boston is rolling after two exciting overtime wins while injuries have plagued Detroit leading them to a disappointing start. The first time these two teams met, the Bruins defeated the Red Wings 4-1 on Oct. 5 in Boston while the Red Wings got their revenge with a 3-2 victory in Detroit on Oct. 14.
The Bruins' latest overtime triumph came on Monday with a 4-3 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins.
"We've been through these kinds of situations before and I think the experience of that has helped us out," coach Claude Julien said via NHL.com. "We were calm and we just got ourselves ready for the overtime."
The Red Wings are coming off of a 3-1 triumph over the Buffalo Sabres on Sunday and will look to take that momentum into today's game. Jimmy Howard was not in net and hasn't won a game since Nov. 1.
"It's just the way it's going right now," Howard said via NHL.com. "I can't really put my finger on it, but I'm not going to get down about it, that's for sure. I thought the season started off good. It's just been the month of November that hasn't been very kind."
Howard is 5-7-6 this season with a 2.72 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage this season. Boston goaltender Tuukka Rask is 13-5-2 with a 1.69 GAA and a .943 save percentage.
Rask will look to stop a Detroit offense that is led by Henrik Zetterberg, who has 10 goals and 18 assists to lead the team with 28 points. Pavel Datsyuk is second with 23 points off of 12 goals and 11 assists but is going through concussion protocol right now while Daniel Alfredsson has four tallies and 12 helpers for 16 points.
Milan Lucic (nine goals, nine assists) and David Krejci (four goals, 14 assists) each have paved the way for Boston with 18 points while Reilly Smith has found the twine five times and added 11 helpers for 16 points.
The Bruins look for another victory while the Red Wings hope to find Jimmy Howard a win when these teams go head-to-head tonight in Detroit.
