Renowned Brazilian journalist Julia Guimarães successfully avoided the sexual advances of a fan on air while reporting about the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Guimarães who works for SPORT TV was reporting about the World Cup match between Japan and Senegal when a fan tried to kiss her on air. She successfully denied the sexual advances of a man who has yet to be identified.

According to reports, the man sincerely apologized to Guimarães when the report went off the air. She told the fan to never do it to a woman citing that it is not polite and not right.

More Complaints From Journalists

Besides Guimarães, Globo Esporte reporter Amanda Kestelman was also adamant about the treatment of female journalist covering the World Cup. Prior to being bothered by a fan last Sunday, Guimarães was also harassed in the match between Uruguay and Egypt which was held in Moscow. Although she failed to identify the identity of both men, Guimarães is positive that people doing such advances are Russians.

"It's difficult to find words As luck would have it, I never lived through this in Brazil. Here, it has already happened twice. Sad! Shameful!" a frustrated Guimarães said.

Guimarães expressed that a few men made fun of her press credentials last week. On the other hand, the Brazilian reporter also gained praises from her fellow journalists and the mass.

Revered sports journalist Paolo Antunes commended the reaction of Guimarães after the incident while comparing the guy to a 13-year-old idiot. University of Rio de Janeiro staff Luciana Boiteux also praised Guimarães for fighting the right of every woman.

Aside from Guimarães, another female reporter covering the World Cup was also harassed on air. The journalist was identified as Julieth Gonzalez Theran who reports for a German media outlet named Deutsche Welle.

While reporting for her news outlet last week, a fan touched her breast and kissed her on the cheek while reporting on air. Despite being harassed, Theran still managed to remain calm and continued to do her job.

A few days after Theran's incident, female correspondent Malin Wahlberg was also badgered on air by a fan who almost kissed her on the cheek. Just like Theran, Wahlberg who reports for a Swedish TV station known as the Sportbladet managed to evade the fan.
