A judge has denied O.J. Simpson's request for a new trial on armed robbery and kidnapping charges, remanding the former NFL star to state prison to serve at least four more years of his nine-to-33 year sentence.
According to Time.com, the verdict means Simpson will not be eligible for parole before he is 70 years old. The Hall of Fame running back was convicted in 2008 after he and others stormed a Las Vegas hotel a year before brandishing weapons in a botched attempt to retrieve some personal items from two sports-memorabilia dealers.
During the appeals hearing, Simpson's lawyers argued to the judge that his previous lawyers had mishandled the case, but Clark County District Court Judge Linda Marie Bell found that the standard required for a new trial was not met.
Simpson took the stand in May to explain in his own words what happened during the 2007 confrontation in hopes of gaining freedom. The man known as "The Juice" during his playing days, claimed that he had no idea the men who accompanied him had firearms and that he did not threaten anyone during the incident.
In 1995, Simpson was infamously acquitted in the killing of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown, and her friend, Ron Goldman. Both victims were found stabbed to death outside Nicole Brown's Brentwood home.
