It was rumored that the WWE would be pitting the World Heavyweight Champion against the WWE Champion in a title unification match on April 6 at WWE WrestleMania 30, but it was announced on Monday night's episode of RAW that World Heavyweight Champion John Cena and WWE Champion Randy Orton will face each other in a title-for-title match in a tables, ladders and chairs match at the WWE's final pay-per-view of the year on Dec. 15 at the TLC event.

Triple H announced on Monday Night RAW that Cena and Orton would square off on Dec. 15 from the Toyota Center in Houston, and while the COO said that both titles will be on the line it wasn't specified whether or not it will be a unification match or if the winner will carry around both belts.

The following blurb was released on WWE.com following the announcement of the match that hinted that the winner may carry around both belts:

"With not one, but both World Titles hanging in the balance, World Heavyweight Champion John Cena will face WWE Champion Randy Orton in an historic Tables, Ladders & Chairs Match. The watershed contest will leave one Superstar in possession of both World Titles, a feat that has never been accomplished since the World Heavyweight Title was introduced in September 2002."

It was rumored that Cena and Orton would keep the titles until WrestleMania 30 and that they'd go head-to-head at the WWE's biggest event of the year, however after Cena interrupted Orton's victory celebration following his successful WWE title defense against The Big Show at last Sunday's Survivor Series event, plans were pushed forward to have the match in December rather than April.

It was reported that the WWE had Cena return and defeat Alberto Del Rio at the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view in October in order to bring some prestige to the title to make it feel as important as the WWE title in order to make a title-for-title match feel very important. Cena himself acknowledged that the World Heavyweight Championship was seen as inferior to the WWE Championship and he was out to change the perception.

"This is not taken as a shot of disrespect to anyone who has held the title before me, but it's now viewed as a second-tier championship, Cena told NOLA.com earlier this month."[Defending it at WrestleMania 30] will truly put a stamp on making it the real deal. I want the WWE universe to realize that it's not a second-tier championship. It should be treated with as much respect as the WWE title."

Though there were some concerns about Cena's surgically repaired arm still being sore, it seems as though Cena and the WWE are confident enough to put Cena in a match that is sure to involve many dangerous spots with the tables, ladders and chairs all being involved.

It has also been rumored that Triple H will be taking on The Big Show at the December PPV now that Orton has moved on to Cena after beating Show at the Survivor Series after a Triple H distraction. The Triple H show feud may come to a head at TLC.

The WWE has announced just one match so far for the main event at TLC in less than three weeks, but it's a huge main event that should prove to have a lot of implications on WrestleMania when Cena and Orton go head-to-head title-for-title Dec. 15 in Houston.
