Tony Romo rescued the Dallas Cowboys sputtering season and his suspect reputation all in one series on Sunday.

Romo led a 14-play drive in the final seconds, setting up Dan Bailey's game-winning 35-yard field goal on the game's final play to lead the Cowboys to a 24-21 come-from-behind win over the the host New York Giants.

"I thought it was a great drive," coach Jason Garrett told USA TODAY Sports of the win that left the Cowboys (6-5) moved in a first-place tie with idle Philadelphia in the NFC East and ended the Giants four game winning streak. "That's really when you separate yourself as a quarterback, as an offensive team, as a team in general."

On the drive, Romo was 6 of 9, passing for 67 yards, including two crucial third-down conversions. Romo kept one drive alive by connecting with Dez Bryant for 19 yards on a third-and-7 from the Dallas 23.

Bryant raved about his quarterback's poise in the huddle as much as the throw; "We're about to do down there and score this touchdown and win," Bryant recalled Romo saying.

Romo, who has been much maligned for some of his late game play over the years, took it all stride. "Everyone understood how important the game was for both teams," he told USA TODAY. "They won four in a row to put themselves back into position. They had a home game. I could tell by their words leading up to it that they were confident. That's what makes the game great. It was a big buildup, but we understood that the game was going to be played on Sunday."

Overall, Romo completed 23 of 38 for 250 yards and two scores.
